Throughout history, textiles have always played a major part in the history of Lyon and the Rhone-Alps region. Lyonnais know-how, renowned throughout the world, continues in the pursuit of new techniques and new products

If Paris lays claim to being the capital of fashion as home of the greatest designers, then Lyon can promote itself as the capital of fashion intelligence in its development in the fields of research and teaching. As an educational establishment, l’Université de la Mode" also sees itself as a place of research and meeting.

The Summer University – the original project – which is aimed at the future professionals of fashion, bases its objectives around two main axes: theory and practice. This summer event, aimed at fifty participants, addresses students, professors and professionals in fashion and the applied arts of all nationalities, both European and international.

Students will find out about local business practices through numerous visits led by bilingual guides (French/English) and teachers to companies and professional structures in French fashion. There will also be visits to museums and cultural buildings: Atelier de la soie (Silk worshop), Musée des Tissus (Textile Museum), Musée de la Chaussure (Shoe museum), Musée du Chapeau (Hat Museum), Musée d’art contemporain (Modern Art Museum), Opéra de Lyon, the city of Lyon, the Rhone-Alpes region and Marseilles.

Classes and lectures will be held in l’Université Lumière Lyon 2, given by lecturers, teachers and professionals invited to lecture by l’Université de la Mode on the theme:
