The Hat Museum in Chazelles
In the 1930s Chazelles-sur-Lyon was the biggest felt-hat production centre in France, comprising 28 factories and 2,500 workers.
Now situated in the former Blanchard factory, the workshop/museum offers a lively way to discover all the steps in high-quality felt-hat making starting from rabbit's fur.
You can admire the exceptional collection of hats from the 18th century to now, some worn by renowned personalities such as Grace Kelly, François Mitterrand, and Jacques Cousteau...
The 2004 exhibit is on the theme of ‘feathers’. You will be guided through the exhibit ‘ A feather in your hat’ by d’Artagnan, the famous musketeer, Queen Marie- Antoinette and Zizi Jeanmaire..
